Your Rubella (German Measles) Screening Test Result. What you need to know (Feb 24) **SOUTH EASTERN TRUST ONLY**

This leaflet for pregnant women provides updated information on rubella and how to get vaccinated so it is not passed on during pregnancy.

Rubella, otherwise known as German measles, can be very serious for the unborn baby in the first three months of pregnancy and can cause damage to the sight, hearing, heart and brain, a condition known as congenital rubella syndrome (CRS).

Infection can be prevented by the MMR vaccine, which protects the mother and her unborn baby.

The leaflet details how pregnant women who are not already immune to rubella will be given the MMR vaccine in two doses after the birth of their child. This should give protection in any future pregnancies.

Please note, translations are based on a previous version of this leaflet (2018). These are currently being updated and will be available soon.
